About Our Reviews

I like to write. It’s what I do. Those who have followed me over the years know that my main website, John Derossett – Writer has gone through several iterations as I develop ideas and come up with things that I want to do. This led to my developing another John Derossett website, this one a dot net version that I was developing into a review website. I decided that I did not want to do that though, and have a website only for reviews.

To this end, I decided that when I started building this website, I was going to put a review section on here that would review a variety of things, but for the most part just products and services. I might occasionally add a movie or a book review, but it will primarily include the following:

  1. Product reviews
  2. Service Reviews
  3. Restaurant reviews

At the end of the day, restaurants are about service too, but I didn’t want to confuse the review section by adding it to services.

Now, the most important thing that I want people to know, is that the only reviews that will ever appear on this website will be for products and services that we actually use. This essentially means, that I needed an item, I went out and bought that item, food, or service, and I am offering an unbiased review on that product, service, or food.

As our popularity grows, and it will, there will likely come a time when businesses ask us to review their product or service. I have thought long and hard about this. It’s a double-edged sword when you come right down to it. Unlike the mainstream press, I want my websites to have credibility long-lost by the press many years ago.

I have decided on the following guidelines:

  1. If someone wants a review of their product or service on this website, it must be something that I will actually use, a service I will actually need, or a food I will actually eat.
  2. Since they approached me, I am NOT GOING TO BUY this product or service, and there is going to be a writer’s fee involved for me to write their review. COMPLETELY TRANSPARENT.
  3. There is no guarantee that the review that I write will be favorable.

The reviews are a service I provide to our readers, and yes, in some cases I do use affiliate links to monetize the website. I’m not looking to get rich off my websites. They are more of a hobby than anything, but I do feel like we should have some kind of income to at least pay the monthly fees for the servers that bring these websites to our readers.

In the grand scheme of things, though everything we present to our readers is free of charge, there are costs involved in bringing you this information, so yes, I even have donation buttons on the site to try to help keep it and other websites alive. THAT DOES NOT MEAN WE EXPECT YOU TO DO THAT. In fact, to date, no one has made any donation, other than myself, AND THAT’S OK.

The main point I want to make is that our reviews ARE ALWAYS real reviews, and yes, we will take steps to generate income, but I will NEVER let that undermine the integrity of the website.
